Preparing your tests for Respondus Proctoring
Prior to the test availability start date
- Schedule a Practice Test
Have your students complete a low-stakes or no-stakes test (e.g. Syllabus quiz) using the same settings you will be using for higher-stakes testing later in the semester.
- Access the Respondus Dashboard
If you have copied a course from a previous semester, Respondus settings are preserved and do not have to be re-set, however, YOU MUST access the LockDown Browser Dashboard in the new course to activate and allow access to the copied tests - Avoid Test Names with Special Characters
There is a known issue in Blackboard Ultra with ampersands that can break the LockDown Browser requirement. When building tests, do not use any punctuation marks for assessment names. Use only “A..Z,a..z”, digits, “0..9”, spaces, underscore, and dash. - Set Tests to Display One Question at a Time
“Display One Question at a Time” is highly recommended to reduce the possibility of network interruptions and will assist students on weaker connections.
- Have Students (Re)Download LockDown Browser
Respondus will typically automatically update, but depending on a student’s individual settings, it may not. Recommend students re-download Respondus before any high-stakes test to ensure they have the most up-to-date version. - Respondus Video Tutorial – Expectations and Behaviors
Consider sharing the Daemen Respondus Video Tutorial with your students. This video was created by our IT and Instructional Design Offices at the request of faculty who leverage Respondus in their courses. The video addresses both preferred testing behavior as well as some commonly seen poor test behavior.
